Cebu and Being a Hot Hot Jalapeno
Posted on August 28th, 2007. Filed under: Daily.I’m back!
My four and a half days of “hit and run” in the Philippines (as Aravis puts it) was overall productive. It’s safe to say that I played a pretty good part with the help of my grandma’s recovery. I spent lots of hours in the hospital, only going home to eat and sleep. I gave up my time, and had one thing in my mind during that short stay: Lola’s recovery. I arrived Cebu on Thursday morning with no sleep from the flight the night before, went straight to the hospital and met me grandma. She was being prepped for her big operation, and she held my hand tight. I told her everything will be alright and her operation will go well as long as she fights to survive. My mom and aunts were thankful that I was the ‘boom’ and it gave her an impact, knowing I was there. I’m the eldest grandchild and being the first and the favorite, it’s definitely my utmost duty to be there for my grandmother.
Four hours later, the doctor opened the operating room with a big smile on his face saying it was successful. There were over 200 stones in her gall bladder! We were SO freaked out because her operations had been rescheduled FOUR times. Notice how there’s so many fours in this post? Four must be the lucky number! Forget about 3 strikes, four is the new three. Okay, what the fuck am I talking about. The grandmother is currently in her post-op recovery right now and is finally being moved to a private room after 18 days in the ICU today. I left her yesterday and told her we still have so much time to explore the world and have fun. She nodded and smiled at me. At least I have something to hold on to =) and I was definitely happy I was able to go home and meet her. She was priority number ONE.
There are still so many things I want to talk about during my trip, like my few hours of stay in Manila (both favorable and unfavorable), but this post will probably stretch as far as my trip to the Philippines, so I’ll do it the Juice Random way.
Boos:
- I didn’t get to meet my friends.
- The first day, I didn’t sleep for about 20 hours.
- A certain someone is mad at me because he says I didn’t make any effort to meet him.
Yays:
- That one hour massage break from the hospital, heaven.
- My few hours in Manila was spent with an ex, who is very much a good friend and hadn’t seen in about 2 years.
- Those few hours to go shopping. I swear, I felt like Elisabeth Hasselbeck in The Look For Less.
- The whole family getting reunited from abroad.
- My grandmother’s successful operation.
I pretty much felt like a nursing student on duty the whole time I was in the hospital. It was pretty cool, but not something I’d do in the long run.
Oh oh oh, whoever nominated me in The Pinoy Evil Blog Awards for the HOT HOT HOT AS JALAPENO PINOY BLOGGER AWARD must be on crack. Hahaha. I know it’s you, Jigs! I told Paolo in my comment that I’m totally overshadowed by all the HOT HOT JALAPENOs. I mean, Helguhhh?? and HappySlip?? They are way more than Jalapeno hotties. It’s fun to be nominated anyway. I don’t know when the voting starts, but I’ll definitely vote for some bigatin peeps! Lololol. I’m talking jibberish now. Gotta run! Seeyadon’twannabeyaaaa.

Jeff: They had to take my grandma’s gall bladder out too. The stones were the size of a papaya seed (looked exactly more like it), some even smaller. It was pretty wow.
Talamasca: I think I nominated you in one of the categories!! Hahaha.

200 STONES? Wow, that must be an awesome display of your grandma’s gall bladder prowess, or whatever that is.
My sister had, like, six. :P
Anyway - hope you’ll stay in Manila for a whole month so that we can hang out. Of course, with the other bloggers!!

Agree with Kevin up there. Maybe you could stay a little bit so there’ll be more than visits to your relatives and old friends. It’s time you show yourself to us!
Anyway, grand that your grandma’s ok-ey. And oh yeah, 20 hours without sleep? Try more than 24 and you’d be all knocked out.
I’d check out that new award thingy.
