Casual..ty?

Posted on October 29th, 2007. Filed under: Daily, Fashion, Friends & Family.

I’ve been watching Ugly Betty nowadays (it’s an amazing show) and the quotes and dialogs are hella witty and funny. This one quote though, caught my attention. It’s when Christina says to Betty that fashion is good for the soul.

I’ve always been an accessories person. Bags, shoes, belts etc etc I’m full of it. I mostly always pay more attention to what bag or belt I wear rather than what clothes I have on. Lately the mother has been telling me that I just dress “too” casually. Sure, I wear shorts, flip-flops (putting all my Havs to good use) and just a t-shirt most of the time, when going to campus or hanging out with my friends. I guess she just feels that all my other good clothes are put to waste by letting it rot in my closet. I just love wearing comfortable clothes. It’s sad really, I have so many nice ones in my closet but I never really get to use them. It’s also this stupid policy I have: “good clothes only for a good occasion”.

I have stuff in my closet that I just bought because I thought it was cute but have never worn it at all because it didn’t feel comfortable or it became too fancy. I hate it sometimes when I end up buying something because I like it, but when it’s on me it would look all weird and ew-ey I don’t even wanna wear it anymore. Hmpf. It’s a sad, sad thing.

When I become a career-woman (*ahem*), I’d rather splurge all my money buying designer bags and shoes (plus lots and lots of gadgets!) rather than buying designer clothes. I don’t know, that’s just me, I’ve always been known to dress down. Though maybe I should try experimenting with what’s in my closet once in a while, don’cha think?

I love, love, love (!!!) Ugly Betty as well. At first I thought it was superficial and all, but come mid-1st-season, the story became more interesting and the lines funnier than ever. Amanda’s and Marc’s witty retorts deliver big time. America is faboo in a geeky kind of sense. Props to them.

If your closet contains clothes aplenty, why not give out some of them to charities? Or to your friends and people you know who seriously need Fashion 101 wtfwtf!!11

I know what you mean. :) While I’ve worn everything in my wardrobe at least once (I feel guilty if I don’t…), there’s really only about ten items that I wear regularly…unsurprisingly, they’re plain T-shirts, jeans, and trackies. :P

Ahh, definitely know what you’re talking about! I have those clothes as well. I normally look at them, try it on and then wear a t-shirt instead. :P

I wouldn’t mind buying designer clothes if it makes me feel uber!comfy (and I have this thing when clothes/gadgets “call” me :P) and stuff.

Oooh. Ugly Betty! I need to catch up on that!

Talamasca: Marc and Amanda are my favorite!!

Amanda: Me too, If I wear something nice once, I feel icky wearing it again! Haha.

Eina: I know what you mean. You put them away once you find a nice comfy tee. :D

Well, I do have lots (and I mean seriously LOTS) of clothes in my closet. I think I’ve counted 40 pair of jeans once. However, I tend to keep my pretty clothes for special occasions. So I’m always wearing comfy clothes… I guess I’m like you, but I do am obsessed about buying clothes more than bags/purses. Jeans and boots are my favourites!

This reminds me: I need to update my wardrobe and go shopping -_- The lover told me that if I didnt log in to Facebook for a week, he’d buy me that top from Mango that my dad didn’t like. I told him NO WAY, lol.

I’m a casual, comfy clothing type of girl, too. I’m not going to dress up to go to school! :P

I always fantasize about my wardrobe as a “career-woman” xD

Haha, Ugly Betty. I used to watch it with my sister because it’s funny, not the slapstick kind but it’s really funny. :)
i think the word casual depends on which side of the fashion industry you are in. your mom probably thinks you dress so casually, but others might think otherwise - in a good sense, of course. but in any case, it’s really up to you; you want to dress up that way, i believe that’s perfectly fine. the only thing you have to avoid is trying to imitate others because they too are probably trying to imitate others. mimetics really suck most of the time, but i think it’s better that you be the standard than follow the current, usually fleeting, standards of fashion. :)

Hey! Don’t forget Suarez’ fave tag line:

“You are an attractive, intelligent, confident businesswoman.”

Hahaha! Am on the first ep on the second season via a tudou uploader already.

I agree with the last thing you said… go experiment, do put it to waste! I too am a casual person, but I try to experiment once in awhile. I am not big on clothes shopping, like you … I’d rather shop for shoes, bags, and other accessories. That way I dont have to try them on… hahah.. lazy eh? Yep. But hey, DO EXPERIMENT with your clothes! ;)

I watch UGLY BETTY too! Sobrang funny, noh?

About my fashion sense.. Hmmm, if I were rich, I think I would be a shopaholic. I actually intentionally refrain from window shopping these days. Because I can’t resist (impulse)buying a cool shirt, nyaha!

I have a simple sense of style. More often, and if the occasion permits it, I’d rather wear a simply cool shirt and flip-flops (they’re not Havs, but they still look cool). I haven’t invested in some formal polos, which I think I should very soon, since I am about to venture in the job-hunting world. (”,)

Me too Juice!
Wahaha.

I too seem to dress too casually most of the time. When I wear something remotely professional or fancy, people comment, hinting that I should wear more variety of clothes. There are lots of shirts I own that have only been worn a few times. The rest of the time my mom wears them. Yes it’s weird seeing my clothes on my mother, but I guess it’s better than letting them go to waste…or is it?

I’m quite the opposite. I don’t focus much on accessories.

I know what you’re talking about. I have so many beautiful clothes, but I wear about 5 of them *blush*. There are actually items in my wardrobe that I’ve never worn before..and some which I just end up giving to my sister instead.

I’m not one for accesories, mainly pretty dresses and skirts. Two things I never really wear, but buy too much of! The policy “good clothes only for a good occasion” is definitly the rule for me : )
