An Ochlophobic Incubus Dilemma

Posted on February 24th, 2008. Filed under: Friends & Family, Music.

Incubus plays in less than 2 weeks and not only have I NOT bought tickets yet, I am also in the utmost dilemma of where to stay. Up (free-seating which is quite safe) or down (free-standing and mosh pit area where the crowd goes weeyoo). I know you’re probably thinking that they’re is my favorite band in the whole wide world and this is a once in a lifetime experience so why the hell am I still doubting on where to stay, when there’s no doubt that I should be at the nearest. Being an ochlophobic, I don’t wanna risk myself and suddenly get panic attacks in the middle of a crazy crowd. Panic attacks are the worst thing that could happen to me, because I’d rather be shot dead than have that kind of feeling.

So then, guy friend comes into picture. He wants to stay down and rock out with everybody, while I want to stay up. There isn’t really any problem except for the fact that he wants me to stay down and said he’ll look out for me and even offered to pay for an amount of the ticket price (yeah right? hahaha) but really now, we know it ain’t about the money. Of course I wanna be with him because he’s the best person I can rock out with and share the same love for such an awesome band but I don’t want to burden people with the thought of that. So I told him to stay down because it’s a “go for it” kind of thing. Of course I knew he was gonna stay down no matter what. And I’m glad *for him* that he did. Well anyway whatev.

Either way, it’s still going to be my favorite band and I know it’s gonna be an awesome show wherever I sit, stand, or rock out. I have decided to stay up where it is good for my well-being and health and I have a couple of girlfriends who are coming as well so that should be good. So why is my mind still on chaos mode?

*UPDATE*
I am SO staying DOWN!!!!!

Panic attacks are the worst - I don’t blame you for taking seated tickets. If you’re still feeling anxious, it might be because you’re excited. I sometimes get the same odd feelings that I get onset of panic attacks when I feel over excited but it usually passes.

Anyway, Incubus = squee! Have fun :D

Hmmm. I never would’ve pegged you as the oclophobic type. But hey, everyone’s got their own issues.

Anyhorse, do the panic attacks occur more often? I mean, like, to the point where they hamper your everyday activities? Because otherwise, I suggest you go for it: opt for the mosh pit and rock out! OMFGIncubus (!!!) is definitely worth the risk.

Incubus = awesome so no matter where you are you will have a great time. When I bought tickets for Serj Tankian (him and SOAD being my favourite musicians) I got standing and we were front row, but as soon as he came on the insane moshing and pushing pretty much made it impossible to breathe and enjoy the show lol, so we moved to the back where we ended up having a much better time.

So yeah seating isn’t necessarily that bad. It also means you don’t have to queue! And yeah there’s also the added bonus of not having a panic attack.

    Have a rocksome time!

Smoke some weed before you go. That should calm you down… or make you feel paranoid. I forgot which is which :-P

I think you made the right call. I know how fun it is to be standing there, rocking out to Incubus (w00t w00t), but personally, I wouldn’t choose to be in the standing/moshing area for their concerts ever again. So ok, it helps if you have someone to guard you from the rest of the crowd, but eh, you’ll still feel all the pushing and shoving and people’s rudeness in getting closer to the stage. All the worrying of falling or getting hurt tends to dampen the show at times. >__>

Anyways, it’s Incubus—you’ll have an amazingly mind-blowing time wherever you sit, I assure you. :D

Wow, you think you’ll still be able to get tickets this late? Good luck. I’d say for your sake it’d be best to sit up higher. I know I wouldn’t want to have a panic attack.

    What! WHAT! WHAAAAAAAAAAT!

But yeah, I think being with the crazy mosh pitting crowd is scary shit, ochlophobic or not. Hell, I’m cool with concert crowds, but at an Incubus concert with all these moshers? No thanks.
