Spice Girls: A Small Tribute

Posted on May 7th, 2008. Filed under: Music.

The Spice Girls are kinda like The Golden Girls: timeless. Such a shame that their fame didn’t last as long as a decade, but the impact they gave to people was much much more, including me of course.

Funny how I actually call Spice Girls as my heroes. I mean if you look back at it now, they were stomach-bearing, loud, inappropriate feminists who were desperate for attention. But how can you not love them really? They were clearly up for a good time and gave “girl-power” a whole new meaning and stepped it up to a whole new level. They danced like no one was watching, and lived like they’ve never lived before.

Posh is my homegirl as of now, but I remember when I was in 1st Grade, me and my four gal pals in the neighborhood pretended to be Spice Girls. I was Sporty Spice, since she was my favorite back then. She always had the best voice and the most kick-ass attitude, something which I clearly posses now *chokes*. I also remember waking up one morning in 1998 (wow, 10 years ago) watching the news to find out that Geri had left. It was a weird feeling. I couldn’t really explain it.

The point is, I know every word and every lyrics to every Spice Girls song. I watched their D-rated movie a million times and still loved it. I had the Spice Girls tour CD, owned The Unofficial Spice Girls book, and bought Spice Girls lollipops and collected free stickers from that (I KNOW). They inspired me to be out there, to be as crazy and wacky as I can. They were such a huge influence, still are, believe it or not. Girl Power!

I’d like to acknowledge Amanda for coming up with this brilliant idea. This post is part of “The Common People’s Tribute to the Spice Girls“. Zig-ah-zig-AH!

Stop right now, thank you very much. XD

I, for one, support you in your love for the Spice Girls. Let’s keep this between us ok, but I had their CD’s back then and I even watched that crock-of-hot-steaming-turd film of theirs. LOL. Good times, good times.

Love your latest theme, btw. ;-p

I love them! I used to like Ginger Spice and I got really sad when she left. I am happy that they are together again though they aren’t that popular anymore.

I’ll join that tribute thing. ;)

Hey, I know that image in your banner. It’s a texture. So where’s the credit? T_T

Reply: It’s in the About page now, an honest mistake. I appreciate it if you could’ve used the contact form instead of irrelevantly commenting on this post.

Haha, I collected those stickers from the peach-flavored Chupa Chups, too! I think I only had 2-3 stickers missing, lololol. I used to dream of being rich enough (because back then, P10 for lollipop was expensive for a 4th grader like me XD) to be able to buy a whole box of Spice Girls lollipops for myself. Ahh childhood. :P

    Oh no…not the spice girls.

Spice Girls! I’m a fan, lololol. That doesn’t really balance out when you think about it.. rock.. Incubus + Spice Girls = What now?

I have one album of the Spice Girls. The booklet is almost torn up thought because I used to listen to it a lot and then sing along with my brother to the songs (IKNOWRIGHT?! LOL).

Ooh, I used to collect the stickers as well! But I don’t remember where I sticked them anymore.. Maybe one of these days I will have a look around my sticker booklets (yes, I still keep them here.. woo!) and see if I’ve sticked it there.

What if they do an Asian tour, would you come? :P There’s a smiley on your left bottom corner, whatsitfor? :D (Gigil sa kakapindot ng smiley)
