A MacBook Break

Posted on June 23rd, 2008. Filed under: Online & Tech, Rantage.

This is for my “peoples” who just lost their MacBooks for repair. I decided to blog about this while my drama mode is still on infinity level over the MacBook I brought for repair yesterday at that Apple Reseller I bought it from. I think this is the first time in 9 months that I’m actually away from it. I admit, it’s overused and abused but it is LOVED to death. It is absolutely something I’d choose to get stuck in an island with. Unfortunately, due to excessive opening and closing, it cracked. Please refer to these related articles (which are quite LOL by the way, after reading the comments and everything):

Unlike in the United States where you can get it fixed after a few hours or so, here in the lovely third-world that’s not exactly the case. That dude even said if they didn’t have the case available here they’d send it to Singapore and it won’t be with me for another week or so. I guess this is a sign? I mean I did intentionally send it while I’m having my semester / summer break because I wouldn’t need it for school anymore. A sign perhaps? More productive things like tennis, tennis and tennis? Something I’ve been putting off for a while now.

The craziest thing is, I found my old laptop lying in the junk somewhere untouched and totally gathering dust. After turning it on and realized it still worked and is fully functional despite its major disabilities like 128MB of RAM and 40GB of space (it has sentimental value–shut up), I can still go online. I’m even blogging from this technology retard right now. I know this won’t last long though, I just need to check my Google Reader, Facebook, Twitter & Plurk, e-mails and that’s it. Everything else is gonna discourage me (no YouTube, IMs and such). That’s why it’s going to be a pretty slow week for me online, time to go enjoy the offline world and breathe some fresh sunny air!

On another note, I’d like to express my sadness over those people who went missing & died during the ferry capsizing incident back home in the Philippines caused by the typhoon.

I remember when they took my MacBook away to replace the fried hard drive. It took them about… a week since they had to ship it away to some factory, order a new hard drive, etcetera. I found myself bouncing off the walls because I was so attached to it (the name is Winston. ;) ).

But in the end, all is well. :) I hope your MacBook comes back to you soon. Don’t go too crazy.

This Mac “virgin” has a question for ya. Do I really really need to get the Apple Care? Coz it’s sooo expensive. :(

The MV Princess news really makes me sad. :(

    :(

Maybe because I’m bitter that I can’t go online EVERYDAY (or as much as I wanted) since I have to go to my classes *pfft* - but I assume this is a huge neon sign of you to focus more on the offline world.

    Or tennis.

    Or JGL!

GO WATCH HIM ON YOUTOOB AGAIN.
Lol, wait, did I say “offline” world?

My macbook cracked within that first year, and yep, I simply took it down to the Apple store and had it repaired and returned to me in about an hour.

Oh and Joni, I don’t think Applecare is worth it. Although there have been people who have gotten their asses saved because they had it, the percentage of those cases are relatively small.

So I guess you’re taking a small chance by not getting it, but is the price worth that small chance being gone? It’s up to you I guess. It wasn’t worth it for me.

The one year warranty is pretty good and everything non-accident related gets fixed for free, and besides, I’m finding I have an itch to get a new macbook/macbook pro and I haven’t even had mine for 2 years yet.

Okay, if you plan on keeping your macbook for over 2 years, it might be worth it. 3 years? Wouldn’t you get a new laptop by then anyway?

That must suck.. I plan on buying a Macbook soon too (I should’ve bought that instead of buying a new computer last year!!). I hope Apple comes up with some kind of a solution before that.
